Sample Program Proposal:
SAS/GUANIN is honored to present this proposal for consideration. We strongly feel that the students’ security is one of our most essential concerns. We use the safest sights and services in Santo Domingo so that the program functions at its best, for the well-being of the students and other participants.
We will be using principally urban zones, with good facilities and easy transportation access, good communication services, and with nearby supermarkets, stores, internet cafes, and restaurants/bars. These sights were selected because they are in the safest zones, where the students can interact without worry, and where we can offer students another dimension of the authentic Dominican cultural experience.

We are confident that through collaboration, open communication and quality program protocols, we can deliver a high quality and appropriate experience for your students.

*Note: All program characteristics are flexible to meet the needs of your students and faculty.
Description:
Your participants will collaborate with SAS/GUANIN CENTER, INC. and our community hosts for a short term development project. Final details are determined by matching the skills and interests of the group with the needs of the host community.
Project options include:
· My Roof Project Construction
· Teach ESL program at the school of Guanin
· Environmental Conservation
· Pre-Med and Nursing, Health Education and Research
· Community outreach services
· Internship program
· Orphanage assistance
· Sports Summer Interchange
· After school program
· Literacy programs for youths and adults
· Volunteer services
· Summer Camp
· Community Health Prevention
The collaborative project will serve as the major component for an experiential and service based program. All participants will receive the opportunities to share and learn all aspects of Dominican and Haitian culture by living with host families and meeting many new friends throughout the Spanish part of the Island, which is shared with the Republic of Haiti, where we also have a project running in Port-au-price. In this manner, they will not only study, but also experience real Dominican life.
Arrival. The program begins in Santo Domingo, capital of the Dominican Republic. When the student arrives, our Dominican staff will gather to welcome them. They will be taken to a city hotel, guest family or to the Community Center Guanin in La Piedra, where they will begin their orientation on the island. The students will be acquaintanced with its culture and customs, as well as learn important information about urban transportation, food and water precautions, safety precautions, etc. We take these steps in order to avoid the frustrations of culture shock and to keep the students healthy and safe. After being received and welcomed by our staff, being conducted to a hotel, and having participated in the orientation, each student will be introduced to his or her host family.
In your free time, you’ll enjoy the warmth of the Dominican people, who just may share with you their passion for dominos and baseball, as well as the stunning beauty of this Caribbean jewel that few tourists see.
